Nathalie Bureau has many applicable skills for the bridge operator position in Port Stanley.

Electrical and MechanicalShe has a natural ability to think mechanically and apply her on-the-spot trouble shooting mentality to any task at hand. She has an introductory understanding of how a bascule bridge works – using a counter balance weight to maneuver the bridge up and down – and she has a quick mind to learn electromechanical and hydraulic systems as demonstrated by her recent rebuild of a commercial espresso machine.

It took about a year for me to take apart and rebuild this machine. I had never done anything like this before and so had to research and dig into online resources to determine how to obtain approved parts and how to diagnose certain faults. My fascination with the hydraulics and electromechanical systems of a commercial espresso machine drove me to apply comprehensive research in order to properly rebuild this unit. I also custom build the wooden cart to ensure it was able to support the hefty weight of the machine including triangular bracings on all 4 sides as well as 50lb weight tolerance castors so that it was easily manipulated and moved when more repairs are needed.

This machine now sits in my living room, hooked up to 240 power (installed by my electrician son), and pulls from a water reservoir of specially-filtered water for coffee machines (to prevent excessive scale build-up in the machine).
